The term production logistics as part of production and logistics designates planning, controlling and control of in-plant transportation, envelope and camp processes in the management economics. It is closely connected with the remaining logistics components. A core of production logistics is formed by layout planning.

Term

If we see production logistics as a part of the logistic chain, then the following definition results: "Production logistics is supported on superordinate enterprise logistics the whole of the tasks and their derived measures for the Sicherstellung of an optimal information, material and a value river in the transformation process of production".

Tasks

Production logistics exercises a river-referred co-ordination function in the context of the production economy. It is to contribute also to the fact that improvements, simplifications and savings in the production department are obtained.

In detail it acts over:

• Improvement of customer orientated production
• Increase of the flexibility in production
• Reduction of turn-around time | turn-around times
• Reduction of existence
• optimal organization of the routes of transportation in the manufacturing
• Reduction of assortment width, number of variants and partial variety

An example of a strategic task of production logistics is layout planning. An example of a tactical task is the means of transport choice. An example of an operational task is the release of orders for transportation.

Production logistics pursues as a primary goal of aligning production at the and the superordinate goals of an enterprise. In order to achieve these goals, production strategies become, how for example those develops the production isle. They are to contribute to arrange the production planning and progressing processes optimal and to create favorable basic conditions for it.
