The RH 450 is a four-axis static frequency changer locomotive of the SBB for the rapid-transit railway Zurich.
The locomotives were designed for the first generation by double stick pendulum courses of the rapid-transit railway Zurich. Due to the pendulum course enterprise without a second flight compartment one did and one used the won place for a
Outwardly adapted to the remainder and around the second flight compartment robbed of the double stick pendulum course (DPZ), outwardly nothing reminds of the fact that the RH 450 corresponds starting from 1987 to the RH 456 technically built by SLM/BBC for private railway companies to a large extent. The chassis is however a new development of SIG. The RH 450 is the first large series of static frequency changer locomotives with GTO thyristors and three-phase alternating current synchronous engines, which with the SBB in the employment.
Between 1989 and 1997 the RH 450 is built for totally 115 pieces by SLM/ABB. The first series of 24 locomotives still under the designation RH 4/4V (10500 - 15023) is ordered, however already carries at distribution the new designation RH 4/4 450 (450,000 - 450,023) under which the second series of 26 machines (450,024 - 450,049) is delivered. In the meantime the SBB changes the series and operating numbers again and the locomotives receives its today still invariably valid series designation RH 450. Due to the strong extent of utilization of the SLM by the building of the SBB RH 460, which 1992 start on a large scale, the 45 Lokomotivkasten of the third series (450,050 - 450,094) are supplied by Schindler railroad car (SWP/SWG) from the work Pratteln. The fourth and last series from again 20 machines (450,095 - 450,114) starting from 1996 is supplied - after conclusion of the distribution of the RH 460. These machines are built again with SLM Lokomotivkasten, while the ABB traffic engineering, in the meantime under the name Adtranz, supplies again the electrical equipment.
The associated Doppelstockwagen (DS) in the same period by Schindler railroad car (Wagenkasten, mechanical parts), SIG (chassis) and ABB respectively for Adtranz (electrical equipment) are built. A RH 450-Pendelzugskomposition generally consists of an OFF and a B-car, as well as a tax car (Bt).
The RH 450 and the associated DS-Bt have kompositionsweise in each case automatic clutches and in the normal operation over the automatic clutch are coupled. The Vielfachsteuerung permits the common leads from up to four pendulum course compositions. Due to the course length of approximately 400 m, resulting from it, the common guidance of four compositions is possible only in exceptional cases (special trains between stations with appropriate Since the effective length of the Perrons on the inhabitant of zurich rapid-transit railway net amounts to usually maximally 320 m, in the rule enterprise maximally three DPZ are united.
Also alone the RH fully ready for operation 450 is fundamental able to drive each UIC conformal which is in practice not made for operational reasons. During transferral travels after Yverdon into the main workshops (new industrial plant) carrying of other cars/vehicles is possible. If the RH does not become from remote controlled 450 thereby by tax car or another vehicle - or only dragged -, it is to be turned necessarily it in the maintenance plants in each case.
From the 115 supplied locomotives today still all machines stand in the daily employment.
For the urgently necessary extension of the roll material park of the rapid-transit railway Zurich without a reproduction one did. Starting from 2006 the existing 115 DPZ with the SBB RABe 514 are supplemented.
